Qualifying for the Team

The Sudley Seahorses are a competitive summer swim team offering high-quality professional coaching and technique instruction for all ages and abilities. The goal of our team is to provide every member an opportunity to improve their swimming skills and achieve success at their level, novice to international competitor.

Swim Team members must be able to swim one lap (25 meters) in under one minute and may not use the lane ropes or edge of the pool for aid.

A 2-week Pre-Swim Team Class is offered each season. This program is designed for swimmers who are nearing the one-minute cut-off and need to build stamina or refine skills. If a swimmer participates in the Pre-Swim Team Class and fails to meet the team requirement, the Swim Team registration fee will be refunded.

Parent Obligations

  • Attend one mandatory parent meeting per season.
  • Donate an item or service to the July 4 raffle each season.
  • Sign swimmers out of each meet you know they will miss. Swimmers should compete in at least 2 dual meets per season as well as Divisionals.
  • Meet the family volunteer requirements each season. Visit our Volunteer page for signup instructions.

The role of parents in competitive swimming is very important. Parents are the swimmers' most important cheerleaders and are their role models for attitudes, values, and behavior.

The success of the child's experience in swimming is deeply influenced by the parents' response and involvement. Parents who provide a stable, loving, and supportive environment, and who show respect and good sportsmanship toward coaches, officials, opponents, and teammates will find the same values reflected in their children.

There is healthy competition among the teams in this league. Sudley has a long tradition of showing good sportsmanship, particularly in the fiercest competitions. This is a tradition we plan to continue.

Please be mindful when posting on social media and when submitting pictures to the team. Poor sportsmanship reflects poorly on the entire team and can impact community perception of the club. Refrain from criticizing other teams and their operations. Do not share examples of crude or distasteful cheers or competition.

Please do celebrate your children and their accomplishments!
